Making changes to the ABTutor config file

'abtutor.xml' config file location: \\abtutor\config$\abtutor.xml

To make changes to the config file

  • Take a local copy of the current config file to edit. Example C:\ABTutor\
  • Change the attributes of the local file so it is no longer Read-only
  • Change the Target for your ABTutor shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\ABTutor\ABTutor.exe" -p C:\ABTutor\abtutor.xml
    • when prompted, input the ABTutor administrator password
  • Make desired changes within the admin interface. Note: If you need to add a user to have access to see a different group of machines then right click on the group folder (e.g. Library) and choose 'Properties' from the menu. Then on the 'Security' tab right click and choose 'Add User'.
  • Close ABTutor
  • Copy the old config file from \\abtutor\c$\Config to \\abtutor\c$\Config\Old\ and change the name from "abtutor.xml" to something which details what was done after the file was changed
  • Copy the new config file to \\abtutor\c$\Config\ Replacing the existing abtutor.xml file
  • Change the attributes for \\abtutor\c$\Config\abtutor.xml to Read-only
  • Change the Target for your ABTutor shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\ABTutor\ABTutor.exe" -t -p \\abtutor\config$\abtutor
  • Launch ABTutor and check for configuration errors

Notes

  • Only change one thing at a time. do not make changes to policy's and security settings in the same config change.
  • Examples of previous config file names
    • AddedBlockYoutubePolicy.xml
    • AlteredGroupAccessSettings.xml
