Exporting users from SIMS (older version)

  1. Go into SIMS Launcher and run STAR
  2. Go to Reports menu, then Pupils sub menu and choose Alphabetical. Window with options will open
  3. Click on magnifying glass icon at right next to year section. Window will open with all years listed on left.
  4. Select year from list on left, then click choose (so it moves to right)
  5. Click Update
  6. Click OK. Pupils in selected year are displayed.
  7. Hit second button from right (mext to printer button). This looks like a floppy drive with an arrow to the left. This opens a save window.
  8. Choose a: from Drives Menu
  9. From "Save file as type:" menu, choose "Comma separated files".
  10. Give it a filename ending in .csv and click OK
  11. To export a different year, close the pupil list and start again from the reports menu

Exporting users from SIMS .net

Initial set up that needs to be done once only

  1. Launch SIMS .net
  2. From the Reports menu, choose Design
  3. Create a new report
  4. Choose People > Student from the list of items
  5. Click Next on Based on Student On "Roll"
  6. On "Select Data Fields", go to Basic details and choose Legal Surname and click the right-hand arrow. Then click Legal Forename and click the right-hand arrow. Legal Surname and Legal Forename should be displayed in the right-hand box. Click Next
  7. On "Define Filter", click New. Select "Registratiom > Year Group" on the expanding list. Tick "Prompt at Run time". Click OK, then Next
  8. On Sort page, click Next
  9. On effective date, click Next
  10. On "Define presentations", click Text. Then check that "Comma separated" is selected. Tick "Allow these settings to be changed", then click Next.
  11. Click "Save my report" as "Export for network"

Exporting the data

  1. Click Report > Run.
  2. Choose "Export for network" from My Queries
  3. Select year group and make sure other year groups are unticked
  4. Browse to required location (e.g. drive A: for floppy) and enter filename ending in .csv
  5. Click OK
