 | | | | | | The NetManager is built in a modular fashion, so it can be easily expanded. There are a number of standard modules, plus we
provide fast and efficient custom development options. | | | | | |
Hardware
The NetManager will run on a wide variety of different
hardware and processor types. Generally we provide it preinstalled
on a high-performance Intel-based server with an
on-site warranty, rack-mount option and easy expandability. We
can customise the specification to add RAID (drive mirroring),
gigabit Ethernet, extra storage, backup devices, etc.
 Custom development
As experts in Internet technologies, Precedence Technologies are
ideally placed to provide bespoke development of intranet
components for the NetManager. For example, projects we have
recently undertaken include an on-line behaviour monitoring
database for tracking and reporting on pupil behavioural
problems. We have also created automated bulletin board
systems and web-based to-do lists.
We can also combine web and email technologies. For example,
we can offer an email tracking system for use in call centres or
offices which will ensure that only one person will respond to an
email sent to a shared address.
Option: Datalogging
With the datalogging option pack, the NetManager can talk to a
variety of sensors (such as light, sound, pH, wind-speed). Graphs
can be generated on-the-fly and viewed from any web browser.
An example of this can be found at: http://www.weblightmeter.com/
Option: Fax services
In a bid to reduce paper, many offices are now looking at
electronic methods of sending faxes. The NetManager can have
fax services added to it. The fax machine is presented as just
another PostScript printer meaning that client configuration is
extremely simple. Received faxes can be emailed or printed.
Option: Backup server
Tape backups are effective, but slow. Restoring a lost file can be
slow and time consuming. The Backup Server option pack for the
NetManager allows it to keep a complete mirror of shares on a
Windows network. The backup server is kept up to date by only
transferring the differences meaning that it places low impact on
a network. It can also keep different generations, so that if the
server is synchronised overnight, for example, you can go back to
snapshots of the previous day and the day before that.
Generally, a backup server is provided as a separate server with a large
amount of data storage (e.g. 2 x 250GB as a minimum). We offer RAID-5
solutions offering up to 2TB (2048GB) of storage. As a dedicated backup
server, it can be placed in a completely separate location (e.g. locked in a
cupboard in a distant part of your site). This safeguards you from theft or
damage. A backup server can backup multiple locations on multiple servers.
It does not use or require Windows file shares. The backup server runs in a
client/server mode. Each Windows server or NetManager to be backed up is
configured with the NetManager backup service. A number of directory paths
are specified on each server (e.g. E:\Users\Students). The backup server will
then connect to each server and go through all the directories specified.
Each file is compared to the local copy on the backup server. Any differences
are copied from each Windows server onto the backup server (N.B. even on
large files, only the differences are copied, so this can save a lot of time
and bandwidth). The previous version of the file is kept. This
synchronisation is usually done overnight, but is entirely configurable.
The backed up data is then accessible as a regular Windows share. This can
be configured to be readable only by an administrator or alternatively, each
user's backed up home directory can be accessible by them. Precedence Technologies Ltd, 120 Cambridge Science Park, Milton Road, Cambridge, UK | Tel: 08456 446 800 Revision:1.1 Mon Apr 14 10:14:30 2008 |
